Duties

Help
  • Plans, organizes, directs and conducts long term investigations of complex, sensitive, and controversial violations (factual or potential) of criminal law, and the Uniform Code of Military Justice, involving persons and property.
  • Uses judgment, initiative, knowledge of investigative techniques, applicable laws, and familiarity with crime trends to determine which cases should be pursued or dropped and when to request coordination or turn over to another agency.
  • Incumbent assumes custody of evidence and marks it for future identification to ensure accountability, preservation and the safeguarding of evidence throughout judicial proceedings and disposition of all evidence by the depository.
  • Coordinates evidence for permanent disposal or for temporary release to include conducting controlled burns, transmittal to crime laboratory for forensic examination, transfer to other commands and for presentation at a court martial or hearing.
  • Prepares and conducts training for investigators, detectives, law enforcement, personnel and Installation Supervisors on alternate evidence custodian responsibilities.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret level security clearance.
  • Be able to wear chemical protection masks, gloves, and other associated personal protective equipment.
  • Pass annual medical examination (physical, emotional and mental stability, etc.).
  • Pass pre-screening and annual physical agility test requirements per AR 190-56.
  • Maintain a valid motor vehicle driver's license.
  • Successfully graduate from Department of Army Civilian Police Academy or AR 190-56 identified equivalent within 12 months of appointment.
  • Be qualified and certified in the use of chemical aerosol irritants, tear gas, taser, and radar gun.
  • State certification, if required, for radar and breathalyzer operations.
  • Be certified to use police weapons, equipment, cameras, crime scene evidence collecting equipment, and automated police information retrieval systems.
  • Maintain requirements of Individual Reliability Program (IRP) IAW AR 190-56.
  • This position is covered by the 1996 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor or felony crime of domestic violence are not eligible for the position.
  • This position has been identified by DA as a testing designated position (TDP) IAW AR 600-85 The incumbent is required to sign a DA Form 5019-R.
  • Incumbent must successfully complete Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification and First Aid training.
  • Incumbent must participate in regularly scheduled training in the techniques of use of deadly force, counter-terrorism, actuating anti-vehicle barriers, search and seizure, security operations.
  • Must be in sufficient physical condition to conduct assist in searching vehicles and persons and restraining persons. Infrequently lifts persons involved in accidents/incidents; uses unarmed combat techniques for self-defense to subdue persons.
  • Works both inside and outside with exposure to inclement weather.
  • Subject to verbal abuse and possible injury or death.
  • Must attend and successfully complete the U.S. Army Military Police School (USAMPS) Military Police Investigations course.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: conducting criminal investigations to detect and apprehend individuals violating the law; maintaining the receipt and storage of evidence; analyzing facts to develop case information for use in pressing charges against identified suspects. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08).

  • Shift work is required, or a change in work shift may be necessary. Hours of work encompass fluctuating tours of duty to include evenings, nights, weekends and holidays.
  • Overtime may be required as directed and is subject to recall for periods of emergency overtime.
  • Incumbent must wear prescribed uniform.
  • Position is designated as mission essential and assumes essential personnel status during inclement weather / emergencies.
  • Good eye/hand coordination is required to operate radios and security weapons and equipment.
