Help

Serves as a Student Intern concurrently with the school semester for which the student is enrolled and performs work under a progressive program that incorporates observation, experiential learning, working individually and with teams to accomplish assignments/projects to achieve the designated mission and goals of the Behavioral Health Branch. 

A Student Intern completes assignments in the areas of short and long-term program plans, objectives and policies; provides support for Marine Corps policies and strategic plans; assists with the development and refinement of quality assurance and compliance plans; learns and understands program goals and objectives and how they meet DOD directives and public law; researches professional literature to better understand how Marine Corps programs remain current with research and science-based practices. May develop information papers on up-to-date clinical practices. 

Receives formal and on-the-job instructions. May actively participate in a variety of subject matter forums, such as meetings, classroom training, group facilitation, information and referral, case management, victim advocacy and support. May participate at an entry level in comprehensive counseling services which include screening, clinical case management, individual, marital, group, and family treatment techniques.  May present reports to full performance level positions. May observe and or co-facilitate training programs and seminars focused on both prevention and intervention.  Includes but not limited to working with individuals who struggle with emotional problems, behavioral problems, domestic violence, substance misuse, and child abuse. 

Prepares supporting documentation for presentations and proposals. Prepares correspondence, briefs, action documents, routing sheets, point papers, and slide presentations. 

Provides World Class Customer Service with an emphasis on courtesy.  Assists customers and communicates positively in a friendly manner.  Checks for satisfaction on the quality of goods and services.  Takes action to solve problems quickly.  Alerts the higher-level supervisor or proper point of contact for help when problems arise.   

Adheres to safety regulations and standards.  Uses any required safety equipment and observes safe work procedures.  Promptly reports any observed workplace hazards, and any injury, occupational illness, and/or property damage resulting from workplace mishaps to the immediate supervisor. 

Adheres to established standards of actively supporting the principles of the EEO program and prevention of sexual harassment. 

This is a white-collar position where occasional lifting up to 20 lbs may be required.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Master's Degree Students only in the following programs: Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy or Counseling, with a 2.5 minimum cumulative GPA.  Skill to receive clear oral and written instructions to progressively perform work independently to contribute to outcomes and develop professionally.  Skill to operate a personal computer with associated equipment and software to prepare a variety of correspondence, forms, point papers and slide presentations as required

INTERNSHIP INFORMATION: Student interns are considered volunteers of the Federal Government and receive school credit or required work experience for their internship. Student interns may assist and augment the regularly funded workforce, but volunteers cannot be used to permanently substitute for unfilled positions or to displace paid employees. Student interns shall not be used to fill requirements for which funding has been provided to hire staff or obtain service by contract.

Student interns may not hold policy-making positions, supervise paid employees or military personnel, or perform inherently governmental functions. Student interns shall be considered an employee of the Federal Government for the purpose of compensation for their work-related injuries and claims relating to damaged property or losses to others.

Qualification determinations will be made based solely on the information submitted in the application. Selection for this unpaid volunteer internship does not constitute employment with Marine Corps Community Services other than for purposes noted above and confers no entitlement to compensation, future employment, or non-competitive conversion.
