Duties

Help

Including but not limited to:

  • Performs and or assists other recreation assistants in the operation and maintenance of the Fitness Center.
  • Establishes periodic maintenance schedule and performs daily inspection of fitness center equipment.
  • Performs the full repair cycle of locating, trouble shooting, disassembly, repair, testing, reassembly, cleaning and adjustments on various machines as required or directed.
  • Maintains files and records as required or directed.
  • Maintains reservations system for sports courts and fields; issues and receives equipment; maintains indoor/outdoor facilities; ensures check-out items are clean and in good repair.
  • Ensures compliance with hazardous material and universal waste management policies and procedures.
  • Operates point of sale system.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if the position allows for qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Qualifying Experience:

Experience or knowledge of the design, basic principles and operating characteristics of various fitness and sports related equipment. Must be familiar with wiring diagrams, specifications and schematics, as well as electrical motors and mechanical parts. Practical knowledge of recreational activities, rules and procedures, and equipment. Solve common math problems and make change. Must satisfactorily complete a pre-employment physical and be able to work an uncommon tour of duty including nights, weekends and holidays.

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.
