Works under the general supervision of the Supervisory Recreation Specialist or Recreation Specialist. Instruct groups and individuals in a variety of outdoor adventure program tours and instructional classes using a variety of teaching methods. Activities include but are not limited to: ATV and snowmobile tours, whitewater rafting, fishing, camping, kayaking, hiking, bicycling, canoeing, rock-climbing, and stand-up paddle boarding. The incumbent is responsible for group management, and the safety of the participants must always be the number one priority. Assists in directing patrons, scheduling the use of equipment and scheduling special trips and tours. Must be familiar with all programs offered by Outdoor Recreation, as well as be familiar with the local area as the position requires providing information to customers. Adapts and supports changing program objectives with a positive attitude. Maintains the cleanliness of assigned work areas.
The incumbent also performs and/or assists in the operation and maintenance of recreational facilities. This includes circulating among patrons to ensure service is satisfactory, resolving customer complaints, and providing instruction on the safe use of equipment. Additional duties include issuing and receiving tools and equipment, inspecting items for damage, completing appropriate paperwork, and performing minor repairs. They will maintain inventories, report shortages to the supervisor, and adhere to all safety and security regulations. This role assumes responsibility for cash and credit cards collected, requiring an inventory at the beginning and end of each tour. Operates general and special purpose vehicles, including pickup trucks, 15-passenger vans, all-terrain vehicles, boats, and snowmobiles. May be required to work an uncommon tour of duty including evenings, weekends, and holidays; work often requires working outdoors in inclement weather. May be required to travel away from JBER. Performs other related duties as assigned.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Qualifying Experience:
Must have a valid driver's license. Prefer experience in cash handling and computer. The position prefers experience that provides a working familiarity with the routines and procedures of recreation programs, including practical knowledge of associated activities, equipment, rules, and procedures. Applicants pursuing a degree in Recreation Management, Outdoor Recreation, or a related field, and who are in the process of completing an internship or fieldwork program, will be considered highly qualified.
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution.
FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program.
