Duties

Help
  • Manages all swimming lessons and instructs when scheduled, at the assigned aquatics facility. Develops swim program according to students' ability and promotes students to higher level of swimming according to their skills.
  • Instructs all levels of swimming and appropriate strokes, to include; front crawl, back crawl, elementary backstroke, breaststroke, sidestroke and butterfly.
  • Teach students from age groups of infant through adults.
  • Introduces and instructs safety and survival skills to students, when appropriate to level of instruction.
  • Instructors work with lifeguards to ensure that swim lessons are safe at all times. Other duties as assigned.

  • Meet qualification/eligibility/background requirements for this position.
  • A one-year probationary period may be required.
  • Satisfactorily complete an employment verification (E-Verify) check.

  • Incumbent may also required to complete a Tier 1 background investigation for a Common Access Card for physical access to federally-controlled facilities.
  • The subject may be required to complete additional background checks due to being required to have regular and recurring contact with children.
  • Must be able to work a schedule that includes weekdays, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Qualifications

A qualified candidate must possess the following:

  • Work experience related to the duties described above.
AND
  • Possession of the following certificates:
  1. Water Safety Instructor Certification
  2. Cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
  3. First Aid Certification

(Certificates issued by American Red Cross, Ellis @ Associates, Star Guard or other nationally recognized agencies are acceptable).
Certificates are required for this position and must be submitted at the time of application.


In addition to the above qualifications, candidates who possess the following qualifications will be considered "Highly Preferred" or "Best Qualified":
  • Possess a Lifeguard Certification
    • Certificate must be submitted at the time of application to be considered highly preferred.
This announcement is in conjunction with the JBLM NAF HR Office Job Fair at the Eagle Pride Golf Course Dupont, WA on Tuesday, 07 April 2026, from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Applicants participating in the event will receive first consideration.
