Duties

Help
  • Develops plans for meeting long-range resource requirements that may include the number, kinds, and levels of workers and skills needed; budget authorizations; and early procurement of materials and tolls with long lead times.
  • Organizes, coordinates, and directs the work activities and personnel of the units supervised.
  • Reviews and analyzes production, cost, and personnel utilization records to evaluate progress of work and to control or reduce costs; studies continuing problems; and takes or recommends necessary corrective actions.
  • Develops and establishes the internal procedures to be followed by subordinate supervisors to assure effective control and direction of the work activities and personnel supervised.
  • Prepares operating instructions and work schedules; develops quality and quantity standards; spot-checks work operations; and reviews completed work and inspection reports to assure that production and quality standards are met.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an MANUFACTURING SUPERVISOR without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common Manufacturing Supervisor tasks. I can lead or supervise in a manufacturing environment in areas such as developing plans for long range resource requirements to effectively accomplish manufacturing work operations; reviewing employee's work in progress or upon completion. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

  • Working Conditions: Works in a well-lighted, heated, ventilated shop and office. Exposed to dust from grinding, oil from machines, dirt, heat, noises, and times.
  • Physical Conditions: Subject to the hazards of burns from hot metal chips, dust in the lungs, cuts, bruises, injuries to hands from use of machine and hand tools, skin irritation from contact with coolants, lubricants, abrasive compounds, and to strains from infrequent moving, lifting, and handling of heavy items. Wears safety glasses, safety shoes, and other safety apparel and equipment as required.
