About the position: This position is Non-appropriated Fund (NAF) and will be assigned to the Youth Center (ages 5-12 years old) at Travis Air Force Base, CA.

Work Schedule: Intermittent (Flexible) employees have no guaranteed hours but may work up to 40 hours per week.

Eligible to use base facilities such as: Base Exchange (BX), Gym, Outdoor Rec, Library, Marina, Golf Course, Bowling Center, and the Arts & Crafts Center.

Duties

Help

  • Under the direct supervision of the Supervisory Youth Programs Specialist, assists with the development and organizing of seasonal youth sports programs in accordance with AF, Command, and local directives.
  • Provides one or more team sports quarterly that are responsive to all the participants' skill and ability levels.
  • Makes beginning instruction available for sports requiring skills to include basketball, flag football, soccer, baseball, and volleyball.
  • Responsible for the care and maintenance of Youth Center equipment, supplies, and sports facilities and fields. Inventories equipment and supplies.
  • Assists with coordinating various staff agencies to utilize base facilities, transportation, and equipment in support of youth sports programs.
  • Assists with providing direction to seasonal employees, contract officials, volunteers and other personnel engaged in youth sports programs. Assists with training all volunteer coaches prior to their assuming responsibility for coaching youth.
  • Ensures that volunteers receive as part of their orientation, training goals, policies, emergency procedures, fire safety, acceptable guidance techniques as well as child abuse detection and reporting procedures.
  • Contacts all volunteers' supervisors prior to having them work with the children to find out if in their opinion he/she is suitable to work with the children.
  • Maintains records and files pertaining to the sports program to include registration information, coaches and volunteer files, clearances and background checks, training documents, etc.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Qualifying Experience:
Knowledge of basic program, plans, operating procedures, and rules and regulations of the youth sports programs is desirable. Must be at least 18 years of age, hold a high school diploma (or equivalent) and have the ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with individuals or groups, using a high degree of tact and diplomacy. Must possess maturity and good judgment and like working with children, youth, and their parents.

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution.
