Help
  • Plans, coordinates and executes studies of marked difficulty and responsibility that address advanced data modeling techniques and procedures, data trend analysis and the development of mathematical data algorithms.
  • Provides analysis, produces data analysis leveraging data science methodologies and applies modeling techniques and procedures in support of the Army's migration.
  • Identifies study's objectives, defines requirements, metrics, measures of effectiveness, and expected outcomes.
  • Anticipates, identifies, and defines major problems and future needs, seeks root causes, and develops practical courses of action and timely solutions.
  • Participates in the planning and implementation of methods, models, and tools and partners with other analysts to identify opportunities for significant process enhancements and recommends changes.
  • Directs and coordinates specific data mining, analysis, advanced modeling, development of mathematical algorithms, and computer program design activities.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position may require temporary duty (TDY) travel 10% of the time.
  • This position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Basic Requirement for Data Scientist:
A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in in mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science or field directly related to the position.

OR

B. Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major field of study (30 semester hours) as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

Specialized Experience: for GS-13: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service which includes: (1) Applying advanced data analysis techniques to identify the methods, processes, algorithms, tools, and/or systems to interpret findings to help optimize programs; (2) Analyzing and developing solutions using data-driven tools; (3) Understanding complex datasets and drawing meaningful conclusions; And (4) Communicating complex technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
