Help

Major Duties Include: Supervises a team of supply technicians in the distribution area to provide supplies and material to the VA Health Care System and supported catchment area. Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Plans work to be accomplished by subordinates, sets and adjusts short term priorities, and prepares schedules for completion of work.
  • Develops and executes staff training.
  • Evaluates work performance of subordinates.
  • Gives advice, counsel, or instruction to employees on both work and administrative matters.
  • Finds and implements ways to eliminate or reduce significant bottlenecks and barriers to production.
  • Maintaining stock at primary and secondary inventory locations for all clinical and administrative services.
  • Monitoring expiration dates, rotating stock to limit outdates and removing items from use as required by outdates.
  • Distributing items according to established or ad hoc requirements using the generic inventory package (GIP).
  • Unpacking/uncrating supplies from shipping cartons; properly storing supplies and material in main/primary inventory areas.
  • Returns reusable supplies to the distribution area, and informs clinic and ward personnel on new or changed items and supplies, current medical supply resources, and shelf life.

Work Schedule: Monday- Friday 8:00 a.m.-4:30p.m.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 04/07/2026.

Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-07 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-06. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade.

You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:

  • Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-06 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to:
  • Oversees the maintenance of stock at primary and secondary inventory locations for all clinical and administrative services.
  • Gives advice, counsel, or instruction to employees on both work and administrative matters.
  • Maintains effective interpersonal relationships with peers, subordinates, inter-service staff and others by dealing with operational priorities of the service and other areas affected by Logistics.
  • Completes computer-generated inventory item picking lists and uploads verified data into the inventory management system; monitors and adjusts issue multiples, units of issue, and ability to apply unit conversion factors accurately, and ensures each item has an IMF number.
  • Works with vendors, contractors, managers, supervisors and staff throughout the medical center and from other agencies on logistics issues.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.

Physical Requirements: The work requires standing and walking during the entire workday, and frequent reaching, bending and lifting of supply packages (occasionally weighing as much as 50 pounds). Work requires pushing loaded carts of medical supplies (weighing in excess of 100+ pounds). With proper assistance, moves heavier items' weighing over 40 pounds.

Receiving Service Credit for Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior work experience or military service experience. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. Such credit must be requested and approved prior to the appointment date and is not guaranteed.
