About the Position: Sierra Army Depot is located in Herlong CA, a rural town in Northern California. Herlong is approximately 60 miles north of Reno, NV, and 35 miles south of Susanville, CA. The depot serves as an Army Expeditionary Logistical Support Center. Employees work Mon-Thurs, 0630-1700 hrs. Youth Facilities and childcare available. Surrounding area boasts a full range of outdoor sports/recreation activities.

Duties

Help
  • Manage environmental programs, such as the Hazardous Materials, Cultural/Historic Resources and National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), to ensure the installation meets all regulatory requirements.
  • Collect technical information on environmental activities by using standard data gathering and analysis techniques.
  • Conduct inspections of installation facilities and operations to ensure compliance with all applicable environmental laws and regulations.
  • Implement preventive measures by following up on findings of noncompliance and notices of violations to ensure issues are corrected.
  • Create environmental documentation, such as environmental assessments and air conformity determinations, on facility projects when warranted.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Term employment is subject to a one year trial period. Employees serving a trial period can be removed with limited appeal rights.
  • This is a Term position scheduled to last two years. A term position may be extended to a maximum of eight years depending upon the needs of management. This cannot be made permanent.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
  • This position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment provided by the employer.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Assisting in the management of environmental programs by gathering data and preparing draft documentation for review; 2) Analyzing data to recommend policy and procedure updates to senior specialists; and 3) Assisting with environmental inspections to ensure compliance with environmental laws. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

OR

Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Environmental Management or Environmental Engineering.

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages.
