Duties

Help
  • Counsel military personnel from all branches of the uniformed services, retirees, and the Families of those being processed through the Army Physical Disability Evaluation System (APDES) on their rights, benefits, privileges or obligations.
  • Coordinate evaluation appointments; schedule follow-up appointments for National Guard and Reserve Component (RC) personnel for approved line of duty (LOD) related injuries.
  • Advise Soldier of the necessity of obtaining sufficient documentation (medical and non-medical) concerning the Soldier's ability to perform military duties and the severity of the Soldier's disease or injury.
  • Interpret and assist in other benefits such as vocational rehabilitation, clothing allowance, aid and attendance, prosthetics and appliances, and aid for the blind.
  • Provide information to MTF/MEDCOM on the status of all activities under his/her supervision (e.g. MEB/PEB processing, LOD management, decedent affairs, correspondence, birth registration, workload accounting/medical statistical reporting, etc.).
  • Provides, reports, briefings, training, and responds to inquiries from senior leaders, DA or Department of War.
  • Plan work to be performed by subordinates lead specialists of a staff of two or more, sets and adjust priorities, and prepare schedules for work completion.
  • Assign work based on priorities, difficulty and requirements of assignments, and capabilities of employees.
  • Approve leave. Establish performance standards, and evaluate work performance of subordinates. Advise, counsel and/or instruct employees on both work and administrative matters.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • A Personnel Security Investigation is required.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes applying policies, regulations and/or directives applicable to a disability evaluation system; planning and/or preparing medical evaluation board processing and/or disability reevaluations; and assisting with workload distribution among subordinates. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).

OR

Education: Ph. D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree with a major study in hospital administration, public health administration, or related fields such as business or public administration with course work in health care administration.

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.   • Male applicants born after December 31, 1959 must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.

  • One year trial/probationary period may be required.
  • One-year supervisory probationary period required. A one-year probationary period is required if the selectee has not previously met this requirement.
