Summary

Open to current and former Federal employees with competitive or excepted status; and all U.S. Citizens. Former members of the Peace Corps may be considered for ODNI employment only if five full years have elapsed since separation from the Peace Corps.
Lead and provide oversight in the monitoring, identification, and resolution of day-to-day ODNI fire protection and life safety facilities issues, and emergency situations.
Prepare corporate fire protection governance and policy, standard operating procedures, and facility design standards.
Manage agency compliance with nationally recognized building and fire codes and enforce codes by conducting
routine workplace analyses and by reviewing work efforts as they relate to established programs and protocols.
Serve as a liaison with Federal, state, or local agencies or officials regarding ESH fire protection programs.
Support mission partners and advise on the purchase, modification, installation, maintenance, and operation of fire protection systems; installation activities; and equipment troubleshooting, maintenance or repair activities.
Review planning, programming, architectural and engineering designs and specifications, product submittals, calculations, and other technical documents to validate compliance with applicable codes and standards and to identify optimal fire protection solutions.
Inspect new construction and renovation projects to validate compliance with project designs and specifications, and applicable codes and standards, oversee acceptance testing of fire protection systems, and document deficiencies for correction.
Provide program oversight to ensure fire protection features and systems are in operational condition; coordinates with others on conducting fire drills and leads fire prevention programs.
Lead and manage investigations of fires and determinations regarding possible structural, electrical, mechanical, alarm, fire extinguishing, or other systems failure; determine cause of origin; prepares reports as required.
Conduct targeted safety education seminars to train agency employees to become fire safety advocates, ensure
safe workplace conduct and to identify safety concerns for mitigation
Must be a U.S. Citizen residing in the United States
Appointment is subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance based on an SBI with eligibility for sensitive compartmented information (SCI)

A two-year trial period is required for all new permanent appointments to the ODNI.

Experience: 10 or more years of fire protection engineering experience working with large facilities and/or campuses, preferably within the IC community.
Education: Bachelor of Science degree in Fire Protection Engineering from an ABET accredited program or Degree in Fire Protection and Safety Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited program.

SALARY DETERMINATION
The ODNI uses a rank-in-person system in which rank is attached to GS employees on the basis of individual qualifications, experience, and performance. Individuals whose current GS grade is equivalent to the grade of the advertised position will retain their current grade and step. Individuals who transfer to the ODNI from a non-GS pay scale will have base pay converted to the appropriate GS grade and step as determined by the Chief of Human Resource Management.
In some cases when a current federal civilian employee applies for an ODNI position that is a lower grade than his or her personal grade, the candidate's personal grade will be downgraded to the grade of the advertised ODNI position and pay will be set at the step that is closest to, and not less than, the employee's current annual base rate of pay, not to exceed the maximum step rate of the GS grade to which assigned.
