Duties

Help
  • Exercise a broad range of professional knowledge and independently performs assessments, diagnosis of substance disorders, addictive disorders, and psychiatric disorders in accordance with the Psychiatric Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM).
  • Determine the patient' type and level of treatment based on American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) Guidelines and community standards. Plans for and provides treatment services for co-occurring disorders.
  • Establish rapport, systematically gather data, determine the readiness of the individual for treatment and change, and apply accepted criteria for diagnosis of substance use disorders.
  • Screens for psychoactive substance toxicity, intoxication, and withdrawal symptoms.
  • Exercises a broad range of concepts, principles, procedures, and practices relevant to the substance abuse program and addiction medicine outpatient program to conduct comprehensive substance abuse treatment of patients.
  • Analyze and interpret data to determine treatment recommendations and priorities with the individual served, formulate mutually agreed-upon, measurable treatment goals and objectives.
  • The Social Worker is responsible for implementing a coordinated clinical treatment that includes identifying patient needs and concerns, developing and revising the patient treatment plan and continuing care for co-occurring disorders.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position may require the incumbent to work on call during irregular work hours which may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and/or varying work schedules.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
  • Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
  • This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is therefore subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.

  • This position may include shift work (evenings, weekends, holidays).
  • This position may require rotating shifts (i.e. work schedule that requires employees to continuously rotate from one shift to another at predetermined intervals).
  • This position requires Basic Life Support training certification from, or in accordance with, the American Heart Association and American Red Cross. Current Advanced Life Support or other advanced certification does not supersede BLS completion

Basic Requirement for Social Worker:Degree:

Master's degree (or higher degree) in social work from a school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

Specialized Experience:One year of specialized experience which includes conducting bio-psychosocial evaluations, providing individual or group clinical counseling, and developing psychosocial treatment plans or recommendations. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).

AND

Special Placement Factor:

Licensure: A current, active, valid, unrestricted clinical license to practice Social Work independently, offered by a U.S. State, District of Columbia, commonwealth, territory or jurisdiction.

Education
