Duties

Help
  • Serve as a Supervisory Social Worker in Substance Abuse Rehabilitation Program (SARP) Department of a Defense Health Agency (DHA) Medical Treatment Facility (MTF).
  • Independently plan and carry out assigned duties in accordance with accepted professional Social Work theories, techniques and professional practice standards.
  • Provide guidance to the SARP Associate Department Head regarding policy and processes related to Behavioral Health issues, substance disorders, psychological and clinical consultation.
  • Provide targeted assessment and evaluation, including diagnostic impressions and functional status focused on the presenting problem.
  • Plan and organize work to be accomplished by subordinates, sets and adjusts long and short-term priorities, and prepare schedules for completion of work and assign work to subordinates based on priorities.
  • Evaluate work performance of subordinates, give advice, counsel, or instruction to employees on both work and administrative matters.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • This position has been designated "Mission Essential".
  • In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations (natural or man-made disaster) the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
  • A one year probationary period is required to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.
  • This position requires that you obtain and maintain a Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • This position requires the incumbent to have tuberculosis testing.
  • This position has mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirements and is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons.
  • This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
  • This position requires the incumbent to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges
  • This position may require the incumbent to work on any day or shift, including nights, weekends or holidays to meet mission requirements.
  • This position is subject to screening and update of required immunizations unless exempted for medical or administrative reasons.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Individual Occupational Requirement for Social Worker:

Degree: Master's degree (or higher degree) in social work from a school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education. (NOTE: You must attach copy of your transcripts)

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes conducting psychosocial evaluations; providing individual and/or group therapy; and leading others in work related duties. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted..

Licensure: A current, active, valid, unrestricted clinical license to practice Social Work independently, offered by a U.S. State, District of Columbia, commonwealth, territory or jurisdiction. (NOTE: You must attach a copy of your license)

Education
