This position is located at the George E. Wahlen Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Salt Lake City, Utah, within the Facilities Management Service Line. The primary duties involve journeyman-level maintenance and repair of air conditioning fan coil units and air handler filter sections, assisting higher-grade Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanics with chiller plant operations, and performing preventive maintenance on heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems.
Summary
This position is located at the George E. Wahlen Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Salt Lake City, Utah, within the Facilities Management Service Line. The primary duties involve journeyman-level maintenance and repair of air conditioning fan coil units and air handler filter sections, assisting higher-grade Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanics with chiller plant operations, and performing preventive maintenance on heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems.
Some of the duties associated with this position include, but are not limited to the following:
Performs troubleshooting, inspection, and repair of air handler filter sections, coils, and fan coil units throughout the SLCHCS.
Maintains, repairs, or replaces motors, filters, blower wheels, pneumatic valves, thermostats, coils, belts, and similar components.
Services evaporative coolers and performs minor service on ice machines and refrigerators.
Replaces major cooling unit components, including compressors, condensers, expansion valves, float and service valves, thermostats, coils, and drive assemblies.
Assists higher-grade mechanics in inspections, monitoring, repairs, maintenance, and documentation of chiller plant operations.
Assists in repairs of motors, pumps, chillers, cooling towers, refrigeration systems, and walk-ins.
Performs chemical testing of chilled water loops and tower water to maintain corrosion and scale control.
Performs preventive maintenance (PM) on air handlers, filters, fan coil units, refrigeration
units, and chiller systems.
Records work in PM logs and creates work orders where needed.
This position requires operation of government vehicles to perform official duties.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday; 7:30am to 4:00pm Position Description Title/PD#: Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic/PD081480 Physical Requirements: The work requires carrying equipment, tools, and testing devices that seldom weigh over 50 pounds. Work requires stooping, stretching, bending, kneeling, and working in tiring/uncomfortable positions. Repairs are often made from ladders, scaffolding, and platforms in hard-to-reach locations.
