About the Position: Manages the Ammunition Supply Point (ASP) and Ammunition Holding Area, which includes the receipt, storage, issue, shipment and accountability for the installation's Class V supplies (ammunition, explosives, missiles/rockets and residue). Work operations are of such scope, volume and complexity that they are carried out in at least two separate organizational segments or groups controlled by subordinate supervisors and/or leaders.

Duties

Help
  • Determines resource requirements, materials, and the number of subordinates and the types of skill necessary to accomplish long-range work schedules.
  • Assigns and explains work requirements and operating instructions; sets deadlines; and establishes the sequence of work operations to be followed.
  • Approves/disapproves issue of ammunition considering such factors as mixed ammunition, vehicle suitability, accurate documentation completed, individual authorization, past history of the unit, and troop training dates.
  • Supervises and manages the Stock Account Section.
  • Reviews and analyzes work accomplishments, cost and use of subordinates to evaluate work progress, control costs and anticipate/avoid problems by recommending corrective action.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Subject to on-call and irregular work hours.
  • Position is designated as a "Key Position". This position shall not be vacated during a national emergency or mobilization. Cannot be filled by Ready Reservists to preclude such positions from being vacated during a mobilization.
  • This is a drug testing designated position (TDP) under the Department of the Army Drug-Free Federal Workplace Program in accordance with AR 600-85.
  • This position is subject to the Lautenberg amendment which makes it a felony for anyone who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence to ship, transport, possess, or receive firearms or ammunition.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience GS12: One year of experience which includes maintaining inventory control through automated supply management programs; overseeing the receipt, storage, issue, shipment, and accountability of ammunition and explosives in accordance with supply and safety regulations.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the Federal service (GS-11).


Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11).

  • It may become permanent without further competition. This appointment does not confer eligibility to be non-competitively converted to career-conditional or career appointment.
  • Current permanent Federal employees (to include permanent Army employees) applying for a Term appointment will be appointed/converted into a Term appointment with no statutory return rights back to a permanent position.
