About the position: This position is Non-appropriated Fund (NAF) and will be assigned to the Outdoor Recreation at Langley Air Force Base, VA.

This is a Temporary Flexible position, not to exceed 30 September 2026.

There are no guaranteed hours, however the employee may be scheduled 0 to 40 hours per week.

The primary purpose of this position is to observe swimming area to ensure safety of patrons.

Duties

Help

  • Continuously observes swimming area to ensure safety of patrons. Ensures the swimming area is open to patrons at scheduled times and only authorized persons are admitted to the area.
  • Rescues swimmers in trouble, promptly administers first aid, and calls for medical assistance if and when needed. Warns swimmers of unsafe environmental or health conditions, hazards, and recommends closing swimming areas until safe conditions prevail.
  • When working at pools, may operate water pumps and control chemical additives to ensure pool water meets specified standards. Ensures that diving boards are inspected frequently for cracks or loose matting, and that necessary repairs are made.
  • May perform other related or incidental duties as assigned for the daily operation of the swimming area to include: cleaning of bath houses, wading pools, main pools, pool decks, beach areas, sunbathing areas, etc. Performs other related duties as assigned.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if the position allows for qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Qualifying Experience:

  • Must have an approved and current nationally recognized certification in lifesaving and water rescue methods and skills, as well as basic first aid training, and CPR (both child and adult) training.
  • Must have experience which provides a practical knowledge of swimming activities, rules and procedures and skill in the use and maintenance of various pool safety equipment is desirable.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50lbs unassisted.

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution.
