Duties

Help
  • Serves as the point of contact for the day-to-day front office operations of a veterinary clinic. Coordinates with clinic management to establish clinic schedule and appointment availability.
  • Receives telephone calls and visitors to the clinic, determines the nature of call or visit, obtains identifying information, and verifies the patient's eligibility for treatment.
  • Updates the existing medical record or collects sufficient information to prepare new record. Provides concise accurate information to veterinary care provider on nature of the visit.
  • Dispenses medications, annotates prescriptions and refills prescriptions in accordance with facility policies and procedures.
  • Serves as clinic ordering official and Government Purchase Cardholder. Processes purchasing documents. At various times, orders, receives, and inventories veterinary supplies and pharmaceuticals.
  • Completes bi-weekly payroll reports. Prepares and submits required end of month reports. Assists with preparation of the yearly clinical budget. Initiates personnel actions at the direction of management.

  • A one year probationary period may be required.
  • Ability to work occasional Saturdays for special events.
  • Must be able to receive all mandated immunizations to work in a direct-patient capacity and/or veterinary environment.
  • Must not have an aversion to animals, blood, bodily fluids, animal tissues, strong odors, needles, or sharp instruments.
  • A successful background investigation submission to the Defense Counterintelligence and Security Agency (DCSA) must be met no later than 30 calendar days after entry on duty or placement in the position for internal candidates.
  • Appointment is subject to the completion of a favorable suitability determination.

Qualifications

A qualified candidate must possess the following:

  • Progressively work experience which demonstrates the knowledge and skills required to perform the duties of the position.
  • Basic computer skills to include proficiency in Microsoft Suite or equivalent.
  • Experience in using a point of sales software.
  • Basic arithmetic expertise to balance cash draw, accept payments and provide change accurately.
  • Typing proficiency - 40WPM.
In addition to the above qualifications, candidates who possess the following qualifications will be considered "Highly Preferred" or "Best Qualified":
  • Clerical experience in a Veterinary Clinic or equivalent or working in an outpatient medical facility/operations as clerical-administrative support.

To be eligible for this position, you must meet one of the following criteria establishing you as a local resident of Naval Station Guantanamo Bay, Cuba:

  • Currently reside on Naval Station Guantanamo Bay.
  • Are a Military Spouse (MSP) or Family Member (FMP) who is currently command-sponsored by an active duty service member stationed at or with orders to Naval Station Guantanamo Bay.
  • Are a dependent of a federal civilian employee or contractor who is on an accompanied tour at Naval Station Guantanamo Bay
Additional Requirements for All Candidates - Please note the following mandatory conditions:
  • Citizenship: You must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent US Resident.
  • Installation Access: You must currently have and be able to maintain installation access.
  • No Relocation/Housing: No relocation expenses (Permanent Change of Station - PCS) or housing entitlements are authorized for this position.
  • Pre-existing Logistical Support: This is a mandatory condition of employment. You must already have and maintain your own logistical support (e.g., housing, base access) through a valid sponsor for the entire duration of your employment in this position. Your application will be considered ineligible if you cannot meet this requirement.

Salary Information:
Salary is pro-rated based on a 40 hour work week.
Hourly range is: NF-03 $15.75ph - $16.22ph ($32,870pa to $33,851pa)

PCS Costs
  • Payment of Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs are not authorized based on a determination that a PCS move is not in the Government's interest.
Allowances and Differentials
  • This job is part of a pay-banded system. Sunday premium pay for regularly scheduled employees and night differential pay may be authorized by the Garrison Commander.
  • Foreign overseas allowances, post allowance, and differentials will not be paid, contingent upon eligibility.
  • Logistical support (i.e. ID card/Command sponsorship) is not provided for this employment opportunity.

Scheduling Information:
  • Below defines theemployment category for this position:
    - Flexible/Intermittent (00 guaranteed hours per week however may be scheduled to work between 0-40 hours per week based on mission needs). Flex employees are not entitled to leave or benefits however, there is no upper limit to the number of hours a flexible employee may work (subject to overtime obligation and work scheduling requirements).
  • Work schedule to be determined after hire.
