Duties

Help
  • You will serve as the immediate supervisor for junior and/or newly hired archivists and support personnel.
  • You will act as a subject matter expert and provide guidance/direction in the pursuit of solving complex and demanding assignments.
  • You will provide technical oversight, develop performance plans and rate employee performance.
  • You will plan, develop, and approve training for new archivists to meet annual objectives and individual performance plans.
  • You will interview candidates for subordinate positions, recommends hiring, promotions and/or requirements.

  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • You may be required to lift up to 40lbs in weight.
  • Supervisors in the executive branch have a heightened personal responsibility for advancing government ethics. You will be required to review the 14 General Principles of Ethical Conduct at 5 CFR 2635.101.

Qualifications

In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience should demonstrate the following:

  1. Performing research of legislative, administrative, organizational and functional history of various agencies, operating practices and providing critical analysis of documentation systems and practices.
  2. Developing plans and justifying recommendations regarding the disposition of non-current records, disposition schedules of records.
  3. Performing the digitization, photo and processing of Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and reference sections.
  4. Reviewing, arranging, evaluation, preservation, and description of various historical records that may include federal, military or Naval records.
  5. Ensuring the proper handling of important materials and overseeing sensitive records.
  6. Collecting, organizing, and protecting official records for historically significant documents such as personal papers and oral histories
Evaluation of Experience:

Professional experience must have been in archival science, or in a directly related field of work such as history that involved the collection, appraisal, analysis, or synthesis of information having historical or archival values. The following are illustrative of kinds of experience that may be accepted as meeting the professional experience requirements: (1) experience as an archivist in Federal, state, religious institution, business, or other archives, or in manuscript depositories, and (2) experience of an archival nature that involved research in archival science, or in a directly related field such as history, government, economics, political science, international relations, or international law.

Education

Applicants must meet the following Basic Requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Applicants must possess:

A. Bachelor's degree in archival science OR bachelor's degree with a major that includes 19 semester hours in archival science, history and/or political science or government, and 12 semester hours in one any combination of the following: archival science, history, American civilization, economics, political science, public adminstration, or government.

OR

B. Combination of education and experience- at least 30 semesters hours that included courses as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
