Duties

Help
  • Serves as the Assistant Director for Support Operations responsible for directing the operational backbone of the Defense Health Network Atlantic (DHN-A).
  • Principal advisor to the Chief of Staff.
  • Directing the secure and efficient flow of operational information and strategic communications between Defense Health Agency (DHA) Headquarters, the DHN-A leadership, and the 13 subordinate Military Treatment Facilities (MTFs).
  • Providing executive oversight of the enterprise-wide supply chain, medical equipment procurement, and materiel readiness to ensure clinical operations are never compromised.
  • Leading the network's emergency preparedness, response, and security programs, ensuring compliance with Joint Commission standards and Department of Defense (DoD) directives for antiterrorism and force protection.
  • Directing the operational readiness and deployment support functions of the network to meet the requirements of the Geographic Combatant Commanders.

  • This position is required to work uncommon tours of duty hours such as, on-call, working either fixed or rotating shifts, evenings, weekends and/or holidays.
  • This position is designated “Mission Essential”. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent may be required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
  • This position is subject to TDY or business travel requirements to various locations.
  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Tier 3 Position (Secret): Position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • One-year supervisory probationary period required.
  • A one-year probationary period is required if the selectee has not previously met this requirement.
  • Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
  • This position is required to be screened for and obtain necessary immunizations/vaccinations (hepatitis, influenza, etc.), unless exempted by a licensed physician.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the experiencerequirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes ensuring agency directives, policy, procedures, and initiatives are disseminated, tracked, and reviewed; coordinate and organize agency related activities, taskers, policies, and initiatives; track, disseminate, evaluate, and develop current and future operations for the agency; develop and revise short and long-range goals; maintain internal communications for all functions/directorates and the dissemination of the information. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-14).
