Help

In this position, you will:
Serve as Chief for the Gaithersburg Safety, Health, and Environment Division (GSHED), providing leadership for effective implementation, maintenance, and continual improvement of the NIST occupational health and safety management system (OHSMS) and environmental management system (EMS) on the Gaithersburg campus.

  1. Provide leadership for the implementation, maintenance, and improvement of the OHSMS and EMS
  2. Oversee NIST-wide implementation of processes to ensure federal regulatory compliance
  3. Direct value-added services by determining internal and external customer needs
  4. Identify and evaluate hazards in diverse industrial, laboratory, and administrative worksites

Qualifications

To qualify, applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-14 (ZA-IV at NIST) level. Specialized experience is defined as:

  1. Managed multidisciplinary teams of occupational safety specialists, industrial hygienists, and environmental management staff.
  2. High-level operations management experience in strategic and tactical planning.
  3. Experience directing value-added services to meet and improve customer needs.
  4. Experience applying federal occupational safety and health standards to identify hazards and execute control measures within diverse industrial, laboratory, and administrative worksites.
  5. Implemented, maintained, and continually improved upon the application of national and international occupational health and safety (OHSMS) and environmental management systems (EMS).

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
