About the Position: This position is with Defense Health Agency, Mental Health Clinic located at the Eisenhower Army Medical Center, Fort Gordon, GA. This position serves as Inpatient/Outpatient Mental Health (IBH) Psychology Technician, providing individualized and group, direct and indirect patient care to clients that are primarily active-duty military soldiers and other eligible personnel, and consultation.

Duties

Help
  • Perform intake and ongoing mental status evaluations for inpatient/outpatient clients to help determine the emotional and or mental needs.
  • Assist in developing patient treatment plan based on interview data, observations, reports of others, review of records, psychological test results, and physical and mental status of the client.
  • Consult with clinics/services within the hospital to facilitate efficient delivery of psychological services.
  • Assist with interpreting data and providing treatment recommendations.
  • Conduct one-on-one assessment and "special watch" for high-risk patients.
  • Maintain accountability of patients during fresh air breaks, meals, and other activities.
  • Perform crisis stabilization for agitated, disoriented, and combative high-risk patients.
  • Escort patients to appointments, activities, meals, etc.

  • This position is subject to a background investigation to determine your suitability for Federal employment.
  • This position has specific initial background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age on a recurring basis.
  • This position has mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirements and is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons (documentation of exemption must be provided upon hire).
  • This position has a TDY or business travel requirement of 5% of the time to various locations. This may require travel on military aircraft, ships, and vehicles.
  • Position is designated as Inclement Weather Essential. The incumbent must make every attempt to report for work on time and/or remain on duty during severe weather conditions.
  • This position requires the incumbent to work rotating shifts, extended hours, weekends, holidays and/or other schedules common to hospital operations.
  • Must obtain within 30 days of employment and maintain certification in Basic Life Support (BLS).
  • Must obtain within 6 months of employment and maintain Prevention and Management of Disruptive Behavior (PMBD) required training.
  • This position requires the ability to lift 40 lbs.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.

In order to qualify, you must meet the Experience and/or Education requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which conducting intake for behavioral health patients, educating and/or counseling behavioral health patients, and maintaining patient records. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).

OR

Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Psychology, Human Services, Child & Family Welfare, Counseling, (ex. Crisis, substance abuse, mental health, chemical dependence), Family and Community Services, Behavioral Science, Human Development, Social Work, Sociology, Vocational Rehabilitation Counseling.

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages.

  • Climate controlled work environment; weekdays; Work is performed where exposure to infectious and contagious disease is common and includes work with many emotionally disturbed patients and family members in a variety of outpatient settings. A degree of hazard is present in working with emotionally disturbed patients.
