As a Health Communications Specialist, GS-1001-14, you will serve as a technical advisor responsible for identifying, developing, and implementing communication strategies with stakeholders in and outside the Agency.

Help
  • Serve as a technical authority and lead for Medicare FFS provider/supplier education, messaging, and outreach strategies to contribute to CMS’s communications objectives.
  • Advise and make recommendations to the Agency leadership on issues involving outreach strategies and expanding communications between CMS and Medicare FFS provider/supplier practitioners and other related stakeholders.
  • Collaborate and integrate outreach initiatives with MACs, national and local professional organizations, and other CMS components leveraging their communications channels to reach various health care specialties.
  • Develop and oversee campaign plan outreach strategies that identify educational activities, strategies, deadlines, objectives, and goals.
  • Manage projects from concept to final product and meets Agency deadlines.

In order to qualify for the GS-14 , you must meet the following: You must demonstrate in your resume at least one year (52 weeks) of qualifying specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal government, obtained in either the private or public sector, to include:

  1. Leading or managing health related communications projects including establishing strategies, monitoring progress, and reporting outcomes or progress to internal or external stakeholders; AND
  2. Collaborating with various Divisions, Centers, or Groups on developing healthcare related educational materials or content using plain language principles or practices; AND
  3. Analyzing quantitative or qualitative data to identify, assess, or improve operational efficiency and/or work products.


Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills, and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Time-in-Grade: To be eligible, current Federal employees must have served at least 52 weeks (one year) at the next lower grade level from the position/grade level(s) to which they are applying.
