Duties

Help
  • Conducts comprehensive psychological evaluations and provides DSM based diagnoses for a wide range of mental health conditions.
  • Delivers evidence based individual and group psychotherapy, including brief interventions, cognitive behavioral approaches, and psychoeducational classes.
  • Assesses and manages acute and chronic risk, including suicidality and homicidally, and determines appropriate dispositions and levels of care.
  • Serves as an on call provider, making recommendations regarding hospitalization, coordinating higher level care placements, and developing safety plans with patients, families, and commands.
  • Collaborates with multidisciplinary treatment teams to develop, document, and monitor SMART treatment goals and ensure continuity of care across clinics and external agencies.
  • Provides expert consultation to medical providers, commands, and specialty clinics on psychological conditions, treatment options, duty limitations, and prognosis for continued service.
  • Implements and evaluates performance improvement, quality management, and Joint Commission compliance activities, including record reviews, risk management monitoring, and SOP development.
  • Utilizes objective outcome measures and screening instruments to guide treatment planning, evaluate progress, and support clinical decision making.
  • Develops and delivers professional development, staff education, and interdepartmental training on mental health topics, clinical procedures, and patient safety issues.
  • Participates in program evaluation and clinic operations, reviewing statistical data, refining treatment processes, approving educational materials, and contributing to hospital committees as assigned.

  • A pre-placement medical examination is required.
  • This position has mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirements and is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons (documentation of exemption must be provided upon hire).
  • Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
  • A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Red Cross or American Heart Association. Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS.
  • This position has a lift requirement of 15lbs.
  • Applicants must be able to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges.
  • This position requires a current, active, valid, and unrestricted clinical license to practice Psychology independently from a U.S. State, the District of Columbia, Commonwealth, territory, or jurisdiction is required.
  • One year trial/probationary period may be required.

Basic Requirement for Clinical Psychologist (Behavioral Health):

Degree:
Doctoral Degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) directly related to full professional work in clinical psychology.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes conducting behavioral health assessments, developing and monitoring behavioral health treatment plans, and providing individual and group therapy. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).

License: This position requires a current, active, valid, and unrestricted clinical license to practice Psychology independently from a U.S. State, the District of Columbia, Commonwealth, territory, or jurisdiction is required.

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

Education
