Duties

Help
  • Pre-assemble and portions cold foods for regular and modified diets, i.e., salads, salad dressings and dessert, in accordance with written instructions on the Food Code Worksheet.
  • Set up food carriers for hot bulk loading, which involves filling coffee well and placing food-well-inserts in the carts.
  • Set up and replenishes food service counters and steam tables with hot and cold food.
  • Operate Cash system to enter order and receive payment.
  • Serve hot and cold foods to cafeteria customers.
  • Label and date equipment and food in accordance with policies and procedures.
  • Prepares fruits and vegetables for cooking and serving.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires rotating shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
  • Moderate to heavy lifting up to 40 pounds may be required
  • This position requires the wear of personal protective equipment.
  • This position has mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirements and is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons (documentation of exemption must be provided upon hire).
  • Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.

There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Food Service Worker ~ without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform the common Food Service Worker tasks. I can prepare cold items such as sandwiches, salads, and fruit; stock utensils, cups, and condiments for customers; clean food preparation areas and kitchen equipment. I am considered an expert and work with a high degree of independence. -I have the ability to perform common tasks of a Food Service Worker. I can perform cleaning such as scraping, soaking, scouring, and scrubbing cooking utensils to include mixing bowls pots and pans; stocking food and drink displays for self service. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

  • PHYSICAL EFFORT: The employee exerts moderate physical effort when lifting or moving objects weighing up to 40 pounds. The work requires pushing heavy carts and trucks in unloading, storing, and delivering supplies. Use powered cleaning equipment. Requires continuous standing, walking, stooping, reaching, pushing, pulling, and bending.
  • WORKING CONDITIONS: Works in a kitchen environment with constant exposure to steam and heat from cooking and the dishwasher. Environment often uncomfortably hot, noisy and humid. Danger of slipping on freshly mopped floors or on floors where food has be spilled. Danger of cuts or serious burns due to exposure to hot liquids, sharp blades, and hot surfaces. Exposed to constant temperature changes when going from kitchen to refrigerators and freezers. Work area has adequate lighting.
