About the Position: As a Pipelineman, the incumbent will stand a regular watch and operate controls in maintaining and discharge of pipe alignment, proper distribution of spoil, and safe strain of pipe stringout. Incumbent is assigned as Baffleman on a Class I dredge.

NOTE: This position is a full-time permanent seasonal appointment. You will work approximately 10 months per year and be placed in a non-pay status when work is unavailable.

Help
  • Operating deck-mounted and hand-operated controls of the baffle plate that governs the movement of a dredge pipe stringout approximately 1000 feet long.
  • Keeping and edging pipe aligned with the dredge.
  • Clearing channels for passage of towboats.
  • Performing basic maintenance and repair activities.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Pipelineman~ without more than normal supervision. - Duties include: 1) operating discharge pipe and baffle controls to maintain discharge pipe alignment, ensuring safe strain on pipe string out; ensuring proper distribution of spoil, and prevent damage to pontoons, barges, other vessels, etc.. 2) handling lines in making and breaking up tows, securing floating plant, and providing general support of dredging and channel patrol operations, and 3) performing basic repairs and preventative maintenance on dredges, towboats, barges, and other vessels. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
