Summary

You will serve as a LEAD ELECTRONICS TECHNICIAN in the Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division, Air Systems Group, AND Propulsion and Power Engineering Department of NAVAIRWARCENAC DIV.

The Incumbent serves as the Senior Electrical Wiring and Interconnect Systems (EWIS) expert responsible for monitoring multi-platform wiring efforts under the Propulsion and Power Engineering Department in the Air Systems Group (ASG) Research and Engineering Group.

Duties

Help
  • You will be recognized as the Senior EWIS Lead Electronics Technician and acknowledged technical expert on aircraft EWIS components.
  • You will provide consultation services for aircraft electrical and electronic wiring and equipment installations from "cradle to grave" as a member of the Wiring Systems Branch and a representative of the Naval Air Systems Team.
  • You will prepare reports of schedule status and provide detailed recommendations to mitigate or preclude schedule delays and negative impact on wiring and equipment installation.
  • You will monitor changes to practices, procedures, wiring metrics, and publications for adequacy of application.
  • You will hear and resolve complaints from employees, referring group grievances and more serious unresolved complaints to a higher-level supervisor or manage.
  • You will develop and maintain good working relationships with PMAs, OEMs, depots, government agencies and fleet activities.
  • You will perform aircraft wiring assessments if required. Upon request, attend and represent the Wiring Systems Branch at industry conferences such as SAE and JSWAG.
  • You will identify developmental and training needs of engineering technicians, providing or arranging for needed development and training.
  • You will recommend and execute root cause corrective actions in the resolution of wiring system deficiencies.
  • You will review and execute all wiring system and component metrics to (1) identify trends, (2) identify opportunities to increase the branch value metric, and (3) quantify the impact of branch activities.
  • You will handle the above 3 tasks while maintaining fleet contacts to ensure complete understanding of fleet needs and metrics under the direction of the Wiring Systems Branch Head and Power and Propulsion Division Head.
  • You will independently lead, plan, organize, conduct, and report the results of aircraft electrical wiring and equipment installation assessments and support functions within the scope of the Wiring Systems Branch Standard Operating Procedures.

  • You will need to use proper safety equipment for any safety hazards that may be encountered.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the (GS-12) grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

1) Evaluating and identifying quality, workmanship, material, and other items that may impact overall wiring and equipment installation safety and integrity;

2) Ensuring effective planning, development and execution of programs as related to organizational policies, processes and procedures (i.e. DOD/Navy/NAVAIR Team policies);

3) Performing engineering technician analysis to determine that an aircraft system and its component parts meet minimum design criteria, standards, and configuration for safe flight operations and signing off for wiring system airworthiness on flight clearances;

4) Implementing project management/coordination policies, processes, procedures and responsibilities;

5) Working with Research, Development, Test, and Evaluation (RTDE) Networks and defense systems acquisition processes;

6) Leading engineering project management to elicit, direct, and integrate the supporting efforts of diverse teams of government employees, support contractors, and vendors; and

7) Demonstrating a thorough understanding of aircraft wiring system design, installation, inspection, and reporting.
