This position serves as the Deputy Director and assists the Director of Field Operations in carrying out the management and investigative mission of the division. S/he is responsible for:

  • Assisting the Director of Field Operations in providing managerial direction and leadership through subordinate supervisors to a staff of Product Safety Investigators.
  • Establishing priorities and assigning work to the investigative teams.
  • Ensuring strategies are well-developed and implemented effectively, and significant matters requiring management review are elevated. 
  • Developing procedures and policies to promote efficiency.
  • Working collaboratively with staff in other CPSC offices to promote the agency's mission.
  • Collaborating with other management officials to allocate resources needed to support the Division's activities.
  • Serves as a field automation systems expert, develops new ways of using technology to create efficiencies in field work.

You will be required to serve a 1-year supervisory probationary period.

Selectees living in the Washington, D.C. locality pay area will have their duty station listed as CPSC Headquarters. Selectees living outside the Washington, D.C. locality pay area will have their duty station listed as their home address. The locality pay you receive will be determined by your duty station: CPSC Headquarters (Bethesda, MD), or home address if located outside the D.C. locality pay area.

Qualifications

All applicants must have 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the candidate with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position.

Qualifying specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

GS-14: 1) Extensive work experience in designing, developing, analyzing, managing and implementing a comprehensive investigative compliance program; 2) overseeing productivity improvement, management controls, and long-range planning activities; 3) leading program development, program implementation, and/or project leadership; and 4) managing employee hiring, performance and conduct.

Evidence of the above specialized experience must be supported by detailed documentation of duties performed in positions held.  Your resume is the key means we have for evaluating your skills, knowledge, and abilities as they relate to this position. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade.
