  • Specialized Experience: At least one year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (e.g., NF-03 or GS-05/07/09) in planning, scheduling, and coordinating recreational programs or facility management.
  • Education: A four-year undergraduate degree in Recreation, Tourism, Hospitality, Business Management, or a closely related field is typically required.
  • Military Knowledge: Familiarity with Air Force or Department of Defense (DoD) regulations, specifically regarding Non-Appropriated Funds (NAF) and Appropriated Funds (APF).
  • Management & Leadership: Demonstrated ability to manage diverse staff, volunteers, and large-scale facilities.
  • Program Development: Experience in organizing arts & crafts, youth activities, sports, or special events.
  • Administrative Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, financial reporting, and facility scheduling.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Core Qualifying Experience
  • Recreation Management: At least 2-3 years of specialized experience in planning, coordinating, implementing, or managing a comprehensive recreation program.
  • Progressive Management: Experience must demonstrate a progression in responsibility, including supervising staff (APF/NAF employees) and managing facilities (e.g., parks, rentals, theaters, community centers).
  • Budgetary Oversight: Demonstrated experience in budget planning, financial reporting, and the use of Non-Appropriated Funds (NAF).
  • Military Community Knowledge: Experience in identifying the needs of a diverse military population (single servicemembers, families, retirees) and implementing programs to meet them.
  • Partnership Development: Skill in negotiating and maintaining Memorandums of Agreement/Understanding (MOA/MOU) to build relationships with on-base and off-base community organizations.

Education

FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program.
