Duties

Help
  • You will plan, coordinate, integrate, synchronize and direct cyberspace operations in order to enable freedom of action across all warfighting domains.
  • You will be responsible for configuring, securing, and maintaining physical and virtual connections.
  • You will prioritize competing demands and sequences tasks effectively in a high-stress operational environment to make rapid informed decisions to meet mission requirements while protecting the infrastructure.
  • You will perform critical oversight of cyberspace infrastructure supporting U.S. Cyber Command (USCYBERCOM), FLTCYBERCOM, as well as regional Combatant Commanders.
  • You will be responsible for overall situational awareness and management of activities on an operations floor and interaction with the Cyber Mission Force (CMF).
  • You will directly oversee and maintain cyberspace infrastructure used by Cyber Mission Force (CMF) personnel.
  • You will utilize advanced software for network navigation and conduct infrastructure operations supporting offensive and defensive missions.
  • You will conduct risk analysis, feasibility study, and trade-off analysis to develop, document, and refine functional requirements and specifications directly impacting future operations.
  • You will synthesize information collected from a variety of computer network resources to identify, analyze, and report events that occur or might occur.
  • You will manage network performance, identify and resolve faults, handle network access and hardening, and ensure mission connectivity is established and maintained.
  • You will maintain operational, technical, and infrastructure situational awareness during cyberspace operations.
  • You will provide a wide range of substantive oral and written presentations/reports to high level military and civilian officials.
  • You will contribute to the development of Joint Mission Operations Center (JMOC) infrastructure plans concerning installation or modification of systems.

  • This is a Cyberspace Workforce position, work role code (441), proficiency level (ADVANCED) - the incumbent is required to obtain and maintain qualifications in DoDM 8140.03 Cyber Workforce Qualification and Department of Navy policies.

Qualifications

In order to qualify for this position, your resume must provide sufficient experience and/or education, knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are being considered. Must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the following four competencies, as defined:

  1. Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.
  2. Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services.
  3. Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.
  4. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.
In addition to your experience demonstrating the four competencies above, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS/GG-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
  1. Utilizing knowledge of operating systems (Windows Server, Unix, Linux), and other network operating systems environments to support a full range of information systems.
  2. Identifying needed enterprise system modifications in order to relate all aspects of the work to the network and user requirements.
  3. Utilizing knowledge of standard systems administration practices such as: log file analysis, system and data backup procedures and methodologies, security and operating system fix installation procedures, disaster recovery procedures, server performance monitoring and analysis, documentation procedures (written and electronic logging of actions and activities), systems troubleshooting and resolution procedures in order to provide advice/guidance on complex information technology (IT) issues.
  4. Adapting to rapidly evolving situations such as security or virus attacks.

Additional information

This position is designated as a Cyber Workforce position in the DoD Cyber Workforce Framework (DCWF) with a primary work role of (441 - Network Operations Specialist), secondary work role of (803- Product Support Manager), and tertiary work role of (411 - Technical Support Specialist) and, as a condition of employment, the incumbent of the position is required to maintain qualifications in accordance with DON Cyber Workforce Program requirements of SECNAV M-5239.2. This designation requires:

- The incumbent participate in continuous learning (CL) program as described in SECNAVINST 5239.20A and SECNAV M-5239.2. An annual 20-hour minimum of Cyber Workforce related continuous learning must be documented in a current individual development plan signed by both the employee and supervisor.

- The incumbent must obtain the required credentials within 12 months of appointment and maintain credentials as described in SECNAV M-5239.2 for DCWF role of 441, 803, and 411 (Proficiency Level: Advanced). For more information, review SECNAV M-5239.2 Chapter 3, paragraph b (1) (g) 1.

Pay Table: 2026 Targeted Local Market Supplement (TLMS) for DCIPS STEM/CYBER Work Roles

The incumbent may be required to perform duties as part of a watch officer team.

Required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.

Must be able to support 24/7 surge operations in a time of crisis, in support of contingencies as directed, and Tier 1-level exercises in support of Commanders mission requirements.

Certain incentives (such as Recruitment/Relocation) may be authorized to eligible selectees.

A relocation incentive is generally a single payment intended to offset some of the relocation costs experienced by the selectee. A relocation incentive may be authorized.

This position is covered by the Department of Defense Priority Placement Program.
