Duties

Help

Maintain and monitor patient appointment schedules for the clinic/practice.
Schedule patient appointments and coordinates and/or schedules patient appointments with other clinics or specialties.
Receive patients and visitors as the initial point of contact, in person or telephonically.
Maintain patient records, both electronic and paper.
Enter, manipulate and/or retrieve information and data from automated systems.
Type routine correspondence, progress reports, medical statements, memoranda and statistical reports using various automation systems and programs.
Complete request forms, manually or automated, for individual patient orders, blood work and other requests.

Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
This position requires the incumbent to have tuberculosis testing.
This position has mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirements and is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons (documentation of exemption must be provided upon hire).
Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
This position requires a qualified typist (minimum 40 words per minute)

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: I have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service which includes receiving patients and visitors in a medical treatment facility or clinic setting; scheduling patient appointments and/or coordinating patient referral appointments; maintaining patient records; and preparing a variety of correspondence and reports utilizing office automation tools.

OR

Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.

Proficiency Required: This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors.
