Duties

Help
  • Provides leadership and supervision for the network engineering team, ensuring effective planning, prioritization, and execution of tasks to maintain and enhance BEA’s network infrastructure.
  • Provides daily administration and design, engineering, and network infrastructure, including Cisco on-premises networks (routers, switches, firewalls, wireless) and Azure cloud networking (Front Door, load balancers, firewalls, VPN Gateway, etc.).
  • Demonstrates a working knowledge of Cisco Voice Over Internet Protocol (VOIP) phone systems and the MS Teams Phone functionality.
  • Administers and monitors network security and logging applications to ensure secure and reliable network operations.
  • Maintains IT security and network documentation and supports implementation of federal IT security laws, regulations, standards, and guidelines, ensuring timely remediation of critical compliance findings identified during annual audits.

Qualifications

Selective Factor: Applicants must have a current Cisco networking certification (e.g., CCNA, CCNP, or higher) and a current Microsoft Azure networking certification (e.g., Azure Network Engineer Associate or equivalent). Applicants must meet this requirement by the closing date of this announcement. Failure to provide proof of the required certifications will result in ineligibility.

For all positions individuals must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below. The employing agency is responsible for identifying the specific level of proficiency required for each competency at each grade level based on the requirements of the position being filled.

  1. Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.
  2. Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services.
  3. Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.
  4. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.

AND

Specialized Experience: For the Band IV (GS-13), you must have one year of experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the Band III (GS-12) in the Federal service. Experience for this position includes: administering, monitoring, and troubleshooting TCP/IP LAN and WAN networks, including IPv6 addressing and Domain Name System (DNS) services; administering and supporting Microsoft Azure cloud networking environments, including configuration and maintenance of Azure ExpressRoute; supporting Cisco voice infrastructure and implementing or assisting with migration to Microsoft Teams Voice solutions; and utilizing on-premises and cloud-based logging and monitoring technologies (e.g., Splunk) to analyze system performance, network activity, and operational events

Education: Education can not be substituted at this band/grade level.
