Duties

Help
  • Responsible for providing senior level guidance, direction, and assistance on regional risk management activities within the area of responsibility for the Regional Office (RO).
  • Serves as technical advisor to the Director with primary responsibility for providing program analysis and evaluation in direct support of the RO functions and responsibilities.
  • Provide guidance and support to RO staff administering underwriting standards, and perform, review and re-determine actuarial and underwriting decisions made by RO staff or deliverers of crop insurance.
  • Provide guidance to RO staff in the review and evaluation of existing and new crop programs, policies and procedures.
  • Research and monitor crop production, farming practices and trends, to ensure RMA procedures and policies remain current with modem agricultural practices.

Qualifications

Time in grade: Current federal employees applying for a promotion opportunity must meet time-in-grade (TIG) requirement of 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled.

To qualify for the GS-13 Senior Risk Management Specialist, you must demonstrate that you have specialized experience that includes knowledge and experience of programs, policies, procedures, and regulations applicable to insurance, reinsurance, and/or risk management and their interrelationship with insurance management functions and practices.

Specialized experience for the GS-13 level consists of the following: At least one full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience that is equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the federal service performing such duties as:

  • Using and evaluating crop insurance policy underwriting procedures and standards
  • Assessing crop insurance program performance
  • Providing technical advice and recommendations to resolve crop insurance program issues
