This position is that of an Equipment Servicer within the VA Butler Healthcare System, which includes the Healthcare Center (HCC), Community Living Center (CLC) and Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOC). The employee is responsible for the centralized wheelchair program, assists the clinicians in the power mobility clinic. Assists the CLC residents, maintains the Wellness Center space and equipment, assembles equipment and performs routine maintenance and sanitation.

Major Duties:

  • The employee coordinates and monitors all phases of the centralized wheelchair program, which includes stocking high traffic points.
  • Performs routine wheelchair maintenance and sanitation.
  • Ensures infection control, safety and all associated standards are met.
  • Assembles and prepares incoming stock DME for issue, including, but not limited to, transfer tub benches, wheeled and rollator walkers, and manual wheelchairs.
  • Identifies and repairs simple and complex adaptive and assistive devices and durable medical equipment.
  • Serves as a liaison for the clinical staff (physical therapy, occupational therapy, nursing, and other medical center departments) to provide technical support for adjustment and maintenance of power and manual mobility devices.
  • Drives between sites/campuses, CBOC and into the community when necessary.
  • Works in collaboration with the Prosthetics Representative and the PMRS Program Manager on product recalls to facilitate timely action.
  • Inspects Wellness Center equipment on a consistently scheduled basis to ensure it's in safe working order, and enters work orders for repairs when necessary.
  • Identifies customer concerns, promptly takes steps to resolve customer issues, and follows up to ensure a satisfactory resolution.

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 4:30 pm.

Physical Requirements: The position demands significant physical stress and strain, such as lifting and/or pushing/pulling equipment, crouching, kneeling and crawling on mats, occasionally defending self against combative patients.

Work Environment: The work is primarily performed in various settings, to include the rehabilitation gym, the Wellness Center, Community Living Center, maintenance shop, and warehouse-like setting involving every day risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions. There is regular and recurring exposure to moderate discomforts such as level of noise in the assigned areas, high temperatures, or other adverse conditions. Work is in a health care environment with the possibility of coming into contact with ill and diseased patients, and/or contact with returned inventory from Veterans with contagious disease, requiring practice of Universal Safety Precautions. The employee is required to use safe work practices with office equipment, avoid trips or falls and observe fire regulations and traffic signs. Trips out-of-doors are required to access areas of the station such as the parking lot, the other campus, or CBOC. Employee must be responsive to the immediacy of equipment needs frequently arising in a medical center environment.
