Duties

Help
  • You will be responsible for the oversight of the hazardous waste management program as it applies to all Motor Transport Department (MTD) accumulation sites that generates hazardous waste.
  • You will inspect accumulation sites to ensure the proper storage and maintenance procedures are adhered to in order to comply with all instructions and regulations.
  • You will develop, implement, and monitor procedures for the hazardous waste minimization plan, which encompasses all waste streams.
  • You will make periodic surveys to obtain or update information on waste management practices.
  • You will analyze data to determine most cost effective method for maintenance and discposal of hazardous waste.
  • You will conduct safety and occupational health surveys, recommending measures to eliminate or control hazardous practices and condiditons which may cause mishaps.
  • You will provide technical safety training to supervisors and employees.

  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.

Qualifications

Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Determines and plans the scheduling and actual removal of hazardous waste from accumulation sites, maintains records and compiles required reports regarding quantity, types and costs of hazardous waste disposal, and responds to hazardous material spill incidents and serves as advisor to the on-site coordinator.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

Education

In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience:

Master's or equivalent graduate degree

OR

2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree

OR

LL.B. or J.D., if related

OR

A combination of experience and graduate education as described above that equates to one year of experience. The percentage of the required education plus the percentage of the required experience must equal one hundred percent.
