Duties

Help

Audiovisual Production Specialist works with team members to set standards for exhibits media development that ensure that the Museum’s media pieces are appropriate, educational, engaging, maintainable and upgradable.

In this position, you will:

  1. Oversee the internal media team to set standards for exhibits media development that ensure the Museum’s media pieces are appropriate, educational, inclusive, engaging, maintainable, and upgradable.
  2. Work with teams to plan and create multimedia content to come up with experience goals, key messages, and themes for each piece.
  3. Produce and installs media elements by coordinating all media elements with unit staff, vendors and partners to establish schedules and budgets.

Qualifications

Education

Undergraduate and Graduate Education: Major study -- photography, radio or television production, motion picture production, or other fields related to the position.

Advanced training in a vocational school, technical institute, or art institute above the high school level in one of the fields listed above is creditable as general experience on a month-for-month basis.

In addition to the basic qualification requirement above:

Experience: You qualify for this position if you have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 level in the Federal Service.  For this position, specialized experience is defined as independently designing and producing and/or coordinating the design and production of digital media for museum exhibitions for content that involves historical and cultural interpretations with artifacts having knowledge of Time-Based Media Art (TBMA) to identify and evaluate conservation requirements.

You will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet the qualifications above.

Your application will be evaluated first for the basic qualifications described above.  The applications that meet the basic qualifications will be evaluated further against the following criteria:

  1. Knowledge of media design techniques and best practices and in the most recent advancements in audio and video technology and worldwide viewing habits and preferences. 
  2. Knowledge of processes, methodologies, personnel, equipment, and related requirements sufficient to plan media pieces. Expert knowledge of procedures of media planning, design, and production.
  3. Knowledge of subject matter and skill to analyze complex subject matter pertinent to African art and museum cultural installations in general and to do so with diplomacy and persuasiveness in securing the cooperation of with unit staff, vendors and partners in securing acceptance of concept proposals and completed work.
