Duties

Help
  • Directs the work of an organizational unit engaged in providing protective security and physical security services to a military installation.
  • Exercises supervisory responsibility ensuring that an acceptable quality and quantity of work are performed.
  • Makes decisions on work problems presented by subordinate supervisors, lead guards, and subordinates.
  • Prepares employee evaluations after determining appropriate performance standards.
  • Develops training courses based on regulatory requirements and supervises necessary training for guard personnel.
  • Plans and coordinates the activities of three shifts of security guards, through subordinate supervisors.
  • Directs investigation of complaints and violations of regulations reported to security officials.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation. A Secret Clearance is required
  • Incumbent must be able to obtain and sustain state certification for operating the NCIC terminals.
  • In accordance with AR 190-56, requirements of Individual Reliability Program apply.
  • The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. Employee shifts are rotated on a regularly scheduled basis.
  • Incumbent must be proficient in the use of assigned firearms/weapons, pass an initial qualification, and must qualify semi-annually thereafter in the use of assigned firearms/weapons.
  • Incumbent must undergo and pass pre-employment and annual medical exams of physical, emotional and mental stability.
  • Incumbent must successfully complete security guard training.
  • Incumbent must successfully complete Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation certification and First Aid training.
  • Incumbent may be required to wear chemical protection masks, gloves, and other protective equipment, and may be required to be certified in the use of aerosol irritants and baton.
  • Incumbent will be required to pass entry level and annual re-certification of standard Army physical fitness/agility test.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • Must wear the Department of the Army Security Guard (DASG) uniform IAW AR 190-56, maintain a high state of appearance and hygiene.
  • Employee must obtain and maintain applicable certifications in operating various electronic equipment and sensors.
  • Incumbent must not have any medical condition that precludes the wearing of a chemical protective mask and over garments.
  • Employee must be able to perform as a member of the installation's overall security response capability.
  • This position is subject to the provisions of the Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban commonly referred to as the Lautenberg Amendment.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of occasional travel.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience with a federal, state, municipal, local, or private protective organization ((1) planning the activities of a security guard force shift, (2) performing access control or visitor control center operations, and (3) administering training to ensure personnel are equipped to protect against threats to property and personnel. The definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed equivalent to the next lower grade/position in Federal Service (GS-08).

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
