Duties

Help
  • Work along with other workers, setting the pace.
  • Answer workers questions regarding procedures, policies, written instructions, and other directives (e.g., technical orders).
  • Obtains needed information or decisions from the supervisor on problems that come up during the work.
  • Ensures that the needed plans, blueprints, material, and tools are available and attained.
  • Pass on to other workers instructions received from supervisor.

  • This position is covered by the civilian drug abuse testing program.
  • Incumbent must be physically able to meet the requirements of the Chemical Accident/Incident Response Assistance (CAIRA) Program including wearing of protective personal equipment during CAIRA exercises.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Sheet Metal Mechanic Leader without more than normal supervision. Duties such as 1. Performing welder duties using electric, acetylene and/or inert gas shield welding process; 2. Planning the steps required to accomplish work orders; and 3. Demonstrating proper work methods. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

  • Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (Includes Blueprint Reading)
  • Ability to Lead or Supervise
  • Ability to Use Hand Tools, Power Tools, etc., for Metal Work
  • Dexterity (Assembly, Disassembly, Reassembly, etc.)
  • Knowledge of Equipment, Structure, Materials, etc. (Includes Constructing, Repair, and Forging)
  • Layout and Pattern Development (Includes Geometric Projection and Triangulation)
  • Work requires standing, stooping, kneeling, crawling, reaching and often times working from ladders and scaffolds; often lifting objects weighing 50 lbs. and more; and often working in awkward and cramped positions for long periods of time.
  • Performs work indoors and outdoors, from extreme hot to extreme cold, from clean areas to extra-hot and dirty areas. Incumbent is exposed to possible injury from burns, falls, strains, cuts and bruises.
