Help

As a Branch Chief, Remote Automatic Weather Stations (RAWS), your duties will include but are not limited to the following:

  • Provides leadership and management direction to develop standards and procedures pertaining to remote sensing and fire weather support technologies.
  • Assures the Remote Sensing/Fire Weather Support Program meets the Bureau's needs for meteorology and climatology data.
  • Initiates, administers, and manages all associated Cooperative Agreements, Interagency Agreements, and Memoranda of Understanding for all services provided by the Remote Sensing/Fire Weather Support Unit (RSFWSU.)
  • Provides leadership to, and coordination with, other government agencies, programs, and projects concerning Remote Sensing/Fire Weather Support issues.
  • Provides for national level coordination and collaboration in resolving Remote Sensing and Fire Weather Support issues, such as frequency management, licensing, certification and RAWS site coordination.

In order to qualify for this position, you must possess the Minimum Qualification requirements listed below:

Specialized Experience:

In order to be rated as qualified for this position, we must be able to determine that you meet the minimum qualification requirements - please be sure to include this information in your resume. No assumptions will be made about your experience.

For GS-14: You must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-13 level that is equivalent in difficulty and complexity as indicated by the following examples: experience in technical and administrative supervision of electronic theory technicians; experience evaluating and performing technical analysis of electronic, computer and electro-mechanical equipment and systems; experience developing policy and providing leadership and management direction to develop standards and procedures related to remote sensing and fire weather support technologies; experience initiating, administering, and managing all associated Cooperative Agreements, Interagency Agreements and Memoranda of Understanding for services; and experience coordinating an annual budget and administering federal government contracts.

Merit Promotion candidates must also meet Time-in-Grade requirements by 03/30/2026.

Eligibility and Qualification Requirements: Applicants must meet both eligibility and qualification requirements for the position of interest by the closing date of the Job Announcement. Specifically,
