Summary

Students Enrolled or Accepted for Enrollment During the Current or Next Upcoming Semester in a Degree-seeking Program (diploma, certificate, etc.) in an Accredited/Qualifying Educational Institution, on a Full or Half-time Basis.
Performs a variety of developmental assignments in support of the overall work of the organization classified at less than the full performance level for recruitment and training purposes.
Receives tailored instruction, guidance, training, and closer supervision designed to equip incumbent with the knowledge and skills necessary for successful performance in the intermediate or full performance level position.
Receives informal and on-the-job training intended to enhance individual technical competencies. Network engineering support for IP or Optical transport to the Network Performance Data Engineering Branch.
Must be enrolled or have been accepted for enrollment and seeking a degree (diploma, certificate, etc.) at a qualifying educational institution on a full or half time basis.
This national security position, which may require access to classified information, requires a favorable suitability review and security clearance as a condition of employment. Failure to maintain security eligibility may result in termination.

Student Interns qualify based on their educational achievements. Per OPM - Student Trainee Requirements for initial appointment - The required education must lead to a bachelor's degree with specialization in or directly related to the field in which the student trainees will receive training on the job. The degree of specialization in this field must satisfy on graduation the specific educational requirements in the qualification standard for the corresponding two-grade interval positions.

PROGRAM COMPLETION AND CONVERSION ELIGIBILITY: Upon successful completion of their academic program and the Next Level Leader Program, students may be converted to a term or permanent GG position in the excepted service consistent with agency needs, academic achievement, and demonstrated potential. Conversion potential for this opportunity is a GG-1550-5/7/9/11 up to the full performance level of GG-12. However, future budgetary events, hiring restrictions, conversion caps, or other events may preclude the conversion or conversion to a position with the full potential performance level. Individuals converted to a position in the competitive service may be subjected to participation in an agency formal development program.
The duration of a student trainee/ intern appointment is a trial period.
