Duties

Help
  • Conduct all steps of safety oversight on various types of parachute systems.
  • Participate in studies to assist in identifying and providing recommendations for areas of improvement.
  • Provide instruction for a wide variety of both formal parachute training courses and on the job training.
  • Provide on-the-job training for parachute packing and rigging procedures.
  • Perform test jumps on parachute and life support systems and/or Jump master duties.
  • Maintains industry continuing education through Parachute Industry Association and other parachute technology venues.
  • Serves as a subject matter expert for military freefall, tandem, static line, and advanced aerial delivery systems.
  • Provides input to command test directors on all accumulated industry information to facilitate research, development, testing, and evaluation projects on all parachute and aerial delivery equipment systems.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance with Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) access.
  • In accordance with Change 3 to AR 600-85, Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Program, incumbent must successfully pass a urinalysis screening prior to appointment and periodically thereafter.
  • Must possess and maintain a minimum USPA “B” license.
  • May require TDY travel over more than 30 days to CONUS and OCONUS locations up to 30% of the time. This may require travel on military aircraft, ships and vehicles.
  • This position is deployable and may require extended TDY to OCONUS locations. This position requires a pre-employment physical and thereafter prior to OCONUS travel over 30 days.
  • This position requires a pre-employment physical, must be able to lift 50 pounds and thereafter prior to OCONUS travel over 30 days.
  • Employee must reside within the local area (50 miles) and be able to report to work within an hour’s notice.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a minimum USPA “B” license and Advanced Freefall Instructor rating.
  • Must possess and maintain Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Master Parachute Rigger certification.
  • Must possess and maintain a certificate of completion for the DoD Basic Static-Line Parachutist Course.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a certificate of completion for the DoD Basic Military Free Fall Parachutist Course, with the ability to obtain the Tandem Master Course.
  • Must possess and maintain a certificate of completion for the U.S. Army Quartermaster Center and School Parachute Rigger Course.
  • Must possess and maintain a certificate of completion for the U.S. Army Quartermaster Center and School Airdrop Load Inspector Certification Course.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes packing parachute systems requiring the execution of numerous mechanical assemblies and fabric packing procedures; performing maintenance and equipment tests on aerial delivery equipment such as parachute canopies and harness assemblies; and providing instruction during parachute trainings and exercises. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11).
