Duties

Help
  • You will perform survey work to identify and evaluate hazardous and nonhazardous industrial work operations.
  • You will conduct a limited segment inspection of storing ammunition and explosives.
  • You will draft reports of findings proposing corrective measures for unsafe conditions and hazardous work practices.
  • You will provide informal instruction to work leaders covering a variety of general safety and occupational health subjects including mishap prevention and safe working practices.
  • You will review and interpret all pertinent and explosives safety laws, regulations, standards and requirements

Qualifications

FOR THE GS-7:
For the below grades: Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

  • Experience assisting with survey work to identify and evaluate hazardous and nonhazardous industrial work operations and conditions and to recommend corrective procedures where the potential for injury or property damage exists.
FOR THE GS-09:
For the below grades: Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
  • Experience conducting safety and occupational health surveys.
  • Experience recommending measures to eliminate or control hazardous practices.
  • Experience assisting with the investigation of mishaps.

FOR THE GS-11:
For the below grades: Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
  • Experience applying comprehensive knowledge of weapons and explosives safety practices in order to determine if explosives safety programs and standards are adequate and compatible with Federal and Navy standards and regulations.
  • Experience applying knowledge of research techniques in order to conduct studies of technical explosives safety programs.
  • Experience applying knowledge of safety and occupational health principles, practices and procedures, body of laws, regulations and precedent decisions applicable to explosive safety associated submarine maintenance and repair, transportation, storage and use of high explosives and flammable and toxic gases.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

Education

Equivalent combinations of education and experience are qualifying for all grade levels for which both education and experience are acceptable.
The specialized experience may be substituted with the following:

Undergraduate and Graduate Education:
Major study -- safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene), or degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study from among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology.

For the GS-7:
1 full year of graduate level education
or
superior academic achievement
For the GS-09:
master's or equivalent graduate degree
or
2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree
or
LL.B. or J.D., if related
For the GS-11:
Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree
or
3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree
or
LL.M., if related

This position is covered by the Department of Defense Priority Placement Program.
