Duties

Help

The Registrar is responsible for coordinating exhibitions and managing all related loans, including the preparation and processing of loan documentation. In addition, the Registrar oversees the safe handling and care of traveling exhibitions, which includes arranging shipping, framing, mounting, conservation, crating, installation, and condition reporting. The role also involves collaborating with fabrication vendors and exhibition designers on the production of exhibition components and structures.

In this position, you will:

  • Track and handle objects, artworks and pieces in exhibitions that are borrowed from other SI museums and external lenders.
  • Oversee binding contracts that include any necessary museum policies to guarantee legal compliance. 
  • Review facility reports from potential exhibitors to ascertain facilities and staff to meet SI Risk Management and specific exhibition standards.
  • Prepare personal travel authorizations and utilize SITES - Affiliations digital technology as appropriate to work requirements. 
  • Archive hard copy and electronic exhibition files.

Qualifications

Experience: You qualify for this position if you have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 level in the Federal Service.  For this position, specialized experience is defined as experience in coordinating exhibitions and museum loans including:

1) Managing loan documentation;

2) Ensuring safe handling, care, and transport of traveling exhibitions;

and

3) Collaborating with fabrication houses and exhibition designers to develop exhibit concepts.

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively within a team and engage collaboratively with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to develop and maintain comprehensive hardcopy and electronic exhibition and registrarial files.
