Summary

The Federal Bureau of Investigation, Firearms Training Unit, at Quantico Virginia is seeking interested candidates to be a Law Enforcement Specialist (LES) / Firearms Instructor and authoritative technical expert in firearms safety, the efficient and effective use of law enforcement firearms, and in the use of deadly force. The ideal candidate will provide high quality training to new agent trainees and seasoned FBI agents.

Duties

Help

  • Duties are performed in a classroom and outside, in all types of weather, day and night (real and simulated), on a regular and recurring basis.
  • Provides firearm training to law enforcement officers, as well as executives from the public and private sector.
  • Provides training for using firearms proficiently, effectively, and safely and instills the technical and analytical knowledge for the highest level of expertise in the firearms field.
  • Identifies, develops and evaluates programs and course materials for law enforcement's use of firearms.
  • Use diverse instructional methods and hardware/software to present to the law enforcement subjects in classroom and during practical application sessions.
  • Identifies needs and modifies or adapts material accordingly.
  • Research, reviews, and analyzes pertinent subject-matter information for future development and delivery of the training instruction programs.
  • Provides input and recommendations to supervisory personnel concerning training equipment, inventory and maintenance.

  • Must be a U.S. citizen
  • Must be able to obtain a Top Secret clearance
  • Incumbent must have successfully completed one or more law enforcement training programs, to include but not limited to:
    • Federal or state law enforcement academies
    • Law enforcement firearms instructor schools, or instruction at such schools
    • Experience in the military special operations community in an instructional capacity
    • Extensive firearms instructional experience with federal or state law enforcement
  • Some travel may be required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This work requires walking, standing, bending, sitting, and carrying moderately heavy items. Work may also involve physical exertion while demonstrating a variety of law enforcement and shooting techniques.

Qualifications

GS 13: Applicant must possess at least one (1) year of SE equivalent to the GS12 grade level. SE is defined as follows:

  • Prepared for, and conducted classroom instruction of law enforcement training techniques, concepts, and firearm safety.
  • Prepared and conducted classroom instruction that involved the development of comprehensive lesson plans, training, and testing materials.
  • Recommended modifications to course curriculum and/or training materials
  • Developed or reviewed training/course materials, aids, devices, etc. and evaluated training results
  • Identified new methods and techniques that improve administrative operations for an organization.
  • Provided advice to management on budgetary and financial issues that impacted critical programs.

Education

Education MAY NOT be substituted for Specialized Experience at GS 12 or higher.

  • The FBI is in the Executive Branch of the federal government. It is one of the components of the Department of Justice (DOJ). The FBI is the principle investigative arm of the DOJ. All FBI positions are in the excepted service.
  • Applicants must be U.S. citizens and consent to a complete background investigation, urinalysis, and polygraph. You must be suitable for Federal employment; as determined by a background investigation.
  • If you are selected, you will be required to serve a two-year probationary period. Probationary employees are precluded from being considered for all job opportunities until 12-months of their 24-month probationary period has concluded. Probationary Employees may be considered for competitive vacancies that are advertised within their respective division or field office after serving 90 days within the FBI.
