As an AIRCRAFT MECHANIC, WG-8852-12, you will:

  • Manages, monitors or performs overall maintenance within the CAMP and FAA framework, servicing, inspections and documentation for one or more highly technical, high performance UH-72A military aircraft.
  • Must have an Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) certificate.
  • Performs work in complex conditions under time and/or mission constraints to include all weather and night operations. Trains, coordinates, and oversees the work of Non-Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) aircraft mechanics.
  • Provides mentorship for those journey level workers pursuing A&P certification.
  • Certifies completion of maintenance tasks of non A&P mechanics and certifies the work of journey level workers in other trades working on the assigned aircraft.
  • Certifies aircraft as airworthy before being released for flight.
  • Performs ground checks and assists functional check pilots with in flight functional check procedures.
  • Oversees installation of equipment for special missions.
  • Expedites UH-72A aircraft operations to include concurrent servicing, refueling, and/or reconfiguration of equipment for changes in operational missions.
  • Performs preflight, thru flight, and post-flight inspections and scheduled or unscheduled maintenance.
  • Controls and performs work assignments based upon priorities, workload availability of UH-72A parts, facilities, material and personnel.
  • Coordinates with maintenance supervisor(s) and production control on maintenance requirements to aircraft that require adjustment to changes in operational requirements.
  • Maintains UH-72A aircraft under FAA and manufacturer guidelines and conducts inspections IAW Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) maintenance publications and special inspection criteria as outlines in FAA, OEM and Army maintenance and safety messages.
  • Required to utilize the Aircraft Notebook (ACN) to make daily entries of: flight data information and maintenance actions performed on the aircraft, parts ordering, and monthly Department of the Army Form 1352 reporting into the Logistics Support Activity and the UH-72A Lakota maintenance management system.
  • Plans, develops and conducts proficiency training during the technician work week to a multi-faceted workforce comprised of Full Time Support (FTS) and supported unit personnel.
  • Sessions are designed to provide training in techniques of repair and maintenance of UH-72A aircraft and related equipment.
  • Conducts and certifies proficiency of trainees for additional or increased responsibilities.
  • Evaluates training by observation of performed tasks.
  • Ensures material and equipment are properly and safely maintained and protected.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Military Requirements

Compatible military grade and assignment required prior to the effective date of placement. This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard. Qualifications

General Experience:
Experience or training removing and replacing aircraft parts, accessories, and components, and making adjustments and settings according to established specifications as well as experience in the use of hand tools and test equipment.

Specialized Experience:
Must have 30 months of experience or training in the following:

  • Installing, adjusting, aligning, troubleshooting and functionally testing the various major and minor mechanical and pneudraulic systems on an aircraft during overhaul or modification
  • Coordinating the work of other mechanics, and scheduling maintenance to ensure completion of critical actions and optimum workflow
  • Instruct lower graded mechanics, military and other personnel in the disassembly and re-assembly of crash damaged engines, transmissions, gearboxes, hydraulic components, and fuel controls sufficient for the exhibit to be returned to its shipping container
