The primary purpose of this position, ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT REPAIRER, WG-2854-10 is to test, troubleshoot, modify, repair, and overhaul a variety of complex electrical equipment that has been removed from ground support or industrial equipment, wheeled heavy duty vehicles, missiles, aircraft, etc.

Duties

Help

-Troubleshoot, repair, modify, and overhaul a variety of complex electrical equipmentsuch as supervisory control and relay systems, automatic alternator synchronizing equipment, temperature amplifiers and controls, speed sensing units, selsyn and amplidyne units, or other similar integrated groupings of electrical equipment and related controls containing printed and miniaturized electronic control circuitry.
-Set up and operate computer controlled automatic test equipment (ATE) to run established and new diagnostic programs in various operational and functional test modes to perform pretest and final checkout of electrical/electronic and interrelated systems.
-Use tools, such as screwdrivers, pliers, wire cutters, strippers, drills, soldering irons and microsoldering units, and crimping devices, and shop machinery.
-Utilize safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintain a safe and clean work environment.
-Maintain records and documents actions.

  • Position requires the ability to discern colors, contrast, and depth.
  • The work requires the employee to drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate, valid driver’s license is required for the position.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C.

QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-2800 Electrical Installation And Maintenance Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
*This position is emergency essential (E-E). The incumbent must meet all requirements of E-E positions and may be required, as a condition of employment, to take a series of vaccinations and annual boosters to immunize against anthrax and other diseases. During a crisis, the incumbent or designated alternate must continue to perform the E-E duties until relieved by proper authority. The same will be required to take part in readiness exercises. This position cannot be vacated during a national emergency or mobilization without seriously impairing the capability of the organization to function effectively. This meets the criteria of an E-E position and requires that the incumbent or designated alternate to be removed from any military recall status.

*The physical requirements of this position as determined by the manager are: Frequently required to stand on hard surfaces for extended periods and bend, stoop, and work in tiring and sometimes uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts and carries, unassisted, items that weigh up to 40 pounds. Occasionally lifts items that weigh over 40 pounds with assistance from other workers or with weight handling equipment. A PRE-EMPLOYMENT PHYSICAL IS REQUIRED.

*Working Conditions: Employee typically works in well lighted, heated, and ventilated areas. Subject to cuts, burns, chemical irritations, strains, electrical shock, and abrasions while repairing and handling equipment. Exposed to unpleasant conditions from dirt, solvents, fuel, fumes, oil, and grease. Follows prescribed safety practices and uses safety equipment such as earplugs, face shields, gloves, hard hats, glasses and safety shoes.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social).
