Duties

  • Some duties are at the full performance level and closer than normal supervision is required at the lower grades, if needed.
  • Assess measures to be taken to improve installation environmental programs.
  • Inspect hazardous waste accumulation points for proper compliance to program requirements.
  • Provide technical guidance to management for compliance and improvement to hazardous waste guidelines.
  • Recommend solutions to management on emergency spill situations or failures to comply to hazardous waste regulations.
  • Assist first responders in hazardous waste guidance and pollution prevention.
  • In the event of emergency spill - may be required to report back to work.

  • The incumbent must be able to lift and carry at least 50 pounds when necessary.
  • This position has been designated Mission Essential. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or specialized experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: one year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Performing inspections to ensure the proper management and disposal of regulated wastes; 2) Assisting in the transport, disposal, collection, and storage of hazardous and non-hazardous regulated wastes; 3) Providing technical guidance for recovery and cleanup operations during spills or release; AND 4) Applying environmental compliance law such as Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Clean Water Act, Safe Drinking Act, and Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ). This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as Environmental Studies, Environmental Protection and Safety Management, or Environmental Science. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.).

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify.). (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)
