Duties

Help

As a Senior Health Science Policy Analyst, your duties will include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Leads strategic planning, implementation, monitoring and assessment related to health research and science policy issues.
  • Oversees and conducts in-depth analyses of significant scientific and social/behavioral policy issues and subject matter areas to guide a research agenda.
  • Maintains broad authoritative and up-to-date expert knowledge of progress and current issues in high priority research areas relevant to the mission through ongoing review of the literature, attendance at scientific meetings, and participation in retreats, seminars, and conferences.
  • Serves as a technical expert on health science planning, policy, and evaluation.
  • Identifies and conducts extensive analysis of trends in and/or emerging or potential problems and opportunities in science policy areas that may have implications for the programs.

Qualifications

In order to qualify for this position in the GS-601 General medical and Healthcare Series, you must have a bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree with a major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of this position. All education, unless completed outside of the U.S., must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the education was completed.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS: In addition, in order to qualify at the GS-14 level, you must have at least one year of qualifying specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-13 level in the Federal Government obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: 1.) Summarizing and explaining health-related (e.g., biomedical) research findings to various audiences (e.g., general public, scientists). 2.) Developing and implementing policies, programs, and procedures to guide health-related (e.g., biomedical) research. 3.) Collaborating with senior-level leadership (e.g., chief scientist, directors) to identify long-term plans for a health-related (e.g., biomedical) research program. 4.) Leading the evaluation of a health-related (e.g., biomedical) research program using qualitative (e.g., content analysis) and quantitative (e.g., regression) methods. 5.) Designing and implementing strategies to improve the effectiveness (e.g., timeliness, goal accomplishment) of a health-related (e.g., biomedical) research program; AND 6.) Leading a team conducting policy analysis on health-related (e.g., biomedical) research topics.
