Summary

The Recreation Assistant (Front Desk Lead) supports daily operations at the Barber Physical Activities Center by ensuring efficient front desk operations, providing outstanding customer service, and assisting with recreational programs and facility management. The position provides guidance to front desk staff, ensures proper cash handling and administrative procedures, and helps maintain a safe, clean, and professional environment for patrons.

Duties

  • Provide customer service and information regarding facility programs including intramural sports, youth sports, group exercise classes, personal training, massage therapy, and health promotion programs.

  • Guide front desk staff by relaying supervisor instructions, demonstrating work methods, and assisting with on-the-job training.

  • Ensure front desk operations run smoothly, including greeting patrons, verifying eligibility, and maintaining a professional appearance of work areas.

  • Operate and oversee cash handling procedures including maintaining change funds, processing receipts, and opening/closing the Daily Activity Report (DAR).

  • Ensure proper use of the RecTrac system for collecting fees, establishing households, and issuing memberships and program passes.

  • Maintain locker issue records, assist with facility reservations, and ensure enforcement of facility rules and regulations.

  • Conduct daily safety inspections, maintain cleanliness of assigned areas, and report or correct safety concerns.

  • Assist with inventory, equipment accountability, and facility logistics including replenishing supplies.

  • Provide support during emergencies or short-term supervisory situations as needed.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Ability to provide excellent customer service in a fast-paced recreation environment.

  • Ability to lift/carry objects up to 45 pounds independently and heavier items with assistance.

  • Must follow safety regulations and report workplace hazards or incidents.

  • Mission essential position and may be required to work during base closures.

EVALUATIONS:

Qualifications

One year experience in recreational activities or related field along with customer service. The ability to read and interpret guidelines pertaining to facility operations, which are directly applicable to MCCS policies. Ability to communicate orally and in writing using tact and courtesy. Must have basic computer skills. CPR and First Aid certification required or the ability to obtain within one month from the date of hire. May be required to obtain government drivers¿ license.
