The United States Space Force (USSF) at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, FL is searching for an Operations IT Specialist to support SLD 45/1 ROPS (NH-2210-03, GS-12/13 Equivalent).

Description:
Assess, design, and optimize automated systems supporting mission operations, with emphasis on cloud infrastructure, DevSecOps, Kubernetes orchestration, and agile development practices.

Lead and participate in DoW cloud platform reciprocity discussions, ensuring alignment with enterprise security baselines, cross service accreditation requirements, and mission partner interoperability.

Use Atlassian tools (Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket) to streamline workflows and support agile project execution.

Manage and modernize database operations, including migration to cloud based architectures, requiring advanced proficiency in Oracle and SQL Server administration.

Develop, refine, and maintain applications software with strong attention to user experience, using languages such as Python, JavaScript, Java, C#, Go, Rust, Swift, Ada, C, C++, COBOL, FORTRAN, PASCAL, and Visual Basic.

Implement and sustain cybersecurity mitigations to protect systems from unauthorized access and ensure compliance with DoW cybersecurity standards.

Provide end user support, training, and documentation across diverse mission systems.

Manage data migrations and ensure data integrity, availability, and accessibility across hybrid and cloud environments, using collaboration tools such as Mattermost.

Desired Expertise
-Software development across multiple languages and environments.
-Kubernetes cluster deployment, management, and troubleshooting.
-Cloud engineering and DevSecOps pipelines.
-Database administration (Oracle, SQL Server).
-Red Hat Linux system administration.
-Virtualization platform expertise, including VMware vSphere, Proxmox VE (open source), Microsoft Hyper V (Windows centric), Nutanix AHV (enterprise HCI), and XCP ng (KVM based).
-Windows Server administration (2016, 2019, 2022).
-Data analysis, problem solving, and mission focused prioritization.
-Strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to support high tempo emergency response operations.
-Security+ certification or the ability to obtain Security+ by the start date, meeting DoW cybersecurity workforce requirements for this position.


Ideal Candidate:
Are you an IT expert ready to bring your talents to the Space Coast? We're seeking a highly skilled professional for the NH03 Operations Information Technology (IT) Specialist role. This position is central to delivering advanced IT capabilities, including complex data management, systems analysis, software development, and cloud focused engineering, for Space Launch Delta (SLD) 45 personnel, NASA, SpaceX, Blue Origin, United Launch Alliance, commercial launch providers, and range test customers. You will support current and future operational IT systems and projects, providing multi-tiered expertise for the 1st Range Operations Squadron as the unit's IT subject matter expert.


Key Responsibilities include:
1. Knowledge of a broad range of systems analysis concepts, techniques, and principles sufficient to evaluate business practices and processes, evaluate the feasibility of systems development projects, and develop functional requirements and specifications.
2. Knowledge of complex data management concepts, principles, and methods sufficient to evaluate effectiveness of systems, develop and design programs, and to conduct performance-testing activities to optimize processes.
3. Knowledge of applications software development and design concepts and techniques sufficient to design, develop, code, test, and debug large and complex programs.
4. Knowledge of software programming languages such as Python, JavaScript, Java, C#, Go, Rust, Swift, Ada, C, C++, COBOL, FORTRAN, PASCAL, Visual Basic.
5. Ability to design, develop, test, evaluate, install, and fine-tune IT programs.
6. Ability to communicate orally and in writing sufficient to fully coordinate activities with management officials and other IT specialists, and to provide user training and support.

  • May be required to work overtime on an unscheduled or emergency basis.
  • Eligible for situational telework only, including Emergency and OPM prescribed “Unscheduled Telework”.
  • This position will close after 5 business days or 75 applications, whichever comes first.
  • Employee may be required to perform travel by military or commercial passenger aircraft in the performance of temporary duty assignments.
  • PCS funding is not authorized.
  • Employee is expected to maintain Continuing Education certification requirements.
  • This position includes information assurance (IA) work as a paramount duty requirement. Per DoD 8570.01-M, the incumbent of this position must achieve the appropriate IA certification within six months of assignment of these duties.
  • Subject to Temporary Duty Assignment (TDY): 15 days a year.
